Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless
"People like you make a difference in the lives of those who are hungry and homeless!"
Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless does not process designations in order to respond quickly to the most urgent needs of charities providing food and housing.
Open Your Heart was founded by State employees and has been answering the call to help Minnesotans for 26 years. Open Your Heart funds over 150 community food shelves and all six Minnesota food banks each and every year. It responds to the tangible needs of housing and shelter providers so that they can continue to welcome those in need of assistance. Homeless students also get a helping hand from Open Your Heart every school year. Open Your Heart provides funding for essential school supplies, tutoring, and school fees that allow students to stay engaged in school during a time of crisis in their lives.

Making a difference in Minnesota:
For the majority of his childhood, David experienced chaos, instability, and abuse at the hands of the adults in his life. At 15, David left the turmoil and confusion of "home," believing that life might be better if he navigated it on his own. David continued going to high school as often as he could, and found a job through a youth program--but was still homeless.
Then, David was connected to YouthLink and his journey to live safely and stably began. After much hard work, determination, and support from YouthLink, David is housed, employed and is taking positive steps toward a bright future.
